What’s AKITS?

Definitely a fair question, one that a few of you who haven’t read the screenplay have already asked. So here goes:

In 1993, just a week before Thanksgiving, a burnt-out Manhattan emergency room doctor, Ray Miller, discovers his wife is just days away from having an affair. Late one night, he is violently attacked in Central Park. The only person who comes to his aid, an elderly man named Andy, is stabbed by the mugger before he makes his escape.

While visiting the good samaritan in the ICU, Ray reveals his secret with Andy, that regrettably, his twelve year marriage is about to end. As the two strangers slowly become friends, Andy shares with Ray his own bittersweet tale of love, betrayal, and redemption during the last days of WWII, in the hopes of convincing the disillusioned doctor that his marriage as well as dysfunctional family, really are worth saving.

*** SPOILER ALERT ***

If you actually plan on ever reading the screenplay or novel, EVER, then you may want to stop reading now. . .

Okay, you’ve been warned.

As the two men grow closer, Ray finally discovers the amazing truth behind one of the most iconic photographs of the 20th century: the “Sailor Kissing Nurse” in Times Square on V-J Day, the last day of WWII; the same picture that appeared in Life magazine just one week later.

AKITS is a multi-dimensional love story, and not a traditional romance.

I hope that you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
